NAMASTE, MOTHERFUCKER: A Brief Overview of Yoga Litigation
Yoga. I appreciate it. It makes me not crazy for short periods of time. Far more than just a series of agonizing stretches, the practice has its roots in age-old Hindu philosophy. Major yogic principles include strict non-violence, non-stealing, and sexual purity. In a way, we litigators practice yoga every day by not stealing our client’s money, not filing unnecessary lawsuits, and not strangling opposing counsel. The stretchy stuff is part of it too, for some of us. The end of yoga is, supposedly, “to bring about a profound transformation in the person through the transcendence of the ego,” Also, you can twist yourself up like this guy:
Believe it or not, it turns out there is a growing body of scientific support for these philosophical underpinnings. Real, honest-to-god, no-bullshit studies are showing consistent physiological and psychological benefits that can best be described as, well, profound.
So you’d think that that would make the people at the top of the yoga industrial complex less…crazy than your average Joe, right?
Right?
